No definitive historical explanation exists, but as many sources have posited, the practice is likely related to customs involving kneeling as a demonstrative act of both supplication and respect, two aspects that a spouse-to-be would likely do well to exhibit to a potential mate" While its not definitive as a historical truth because of no known documents are established that is the case, it's still posited as a possibility. Which is exactly where most of our slang comes from, probable explanations to explain things. However, i'm not disagreeing and I thank you for that response, I learned something so therefor thank you. |

"arrow to the knee" is a reference to getting married. Whether it should be used in this context or the author actually knows the background of the saying in the context that is presented is debatable. |
