@xyzzy sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this one. Yes, the worldbuilding is fantastic in WOT, and the first 4 books or so are a a high-fantasygasm. And that's why it hurts so much that the next 5-6 books after that become progressively more and more of a tedious slog to get through. But then Robert Jordan got his terminal cardiac amyloidosis diagnosis, and book 11 suddenly was awesome again (because he started actually progressing the story as fast as he could instead of writing like he was getting paid by the word)... and then he died before he could write the last book. Fortunately, his widow gave all his notes to Brian Sanderson, who, as I understand it, put together a masterful ending to the series. I haven't read it myself (because by the time it came out I had forgotten all the important things that had happened over the course of the series and I'll be fucked with a spikey bat before I ever read Crossroads of Twilight again), but others I know who have said it was really good. @givemersspls Ok, that's very complicated, but, with that definition, how did you come up with You can't have any male show any significant levels of skill in this wish-fulfillment series. ? The one that guy's fighting isn't even the MC. So is it wish-fulfillment or self-insertion (not that I agree that wish-fulfillment or self-insertion apply only "if it's the MC" in the first place, but this is your definition)? |

@unk0damnation Wish-fulfillment is a term of art. A related term is self-insertion. It means something specific beyond just the individual terms. Quick question. What's the main character's name? You may or may not know it. It's been said less than 10 times throughout this entire series (72 chapters thus far). It's extremely rarely said because the character is supposed to be self-insertion, an almost empty slate whereupon people project themselves. Then comes the wish-fulfillment, where the self-inserted people live out their fantasies. It's only wish-fulfillment if it's the main character. |

@givemersspls But if the guy won, wouldn't that be a wish fulfillment for you (or anyone who wish for the guy to win, because one thing or another)? |

Jesus, Tizel can sure eat a lot. @gasbandit then you mine as well just read chinese manga which is absolutely soulless in damn near every way. Details give us a way to better visual and imagine the world. When I read manga the images and words allow me to basically make a movie of it in my imagination to make it even more enjoyable. Sure I can fill in the blanks, but if I have to do it every time it makes mangas/comics feel generic in a way as I may not fill in the blanks in a unique fashion for every one. It is the same way with books. If they lack proper descriptions, pacing and imagery then the book will not be enjoyable to the reader because books are the exact same as manga in which we use out imaginations to visualize what is happening in our minds as we progress. @givemersspls If you remember the mountain elf chapters with Yaa and her underlings you'll remember that Yaa wants to get with the Chief but can't use standard methods so It was something about displaying her strength or some shit to the chief. |

I always get this weird realization, the guy's been living here for years and he has children. I feel like it's rare in manga. Like, just think about it. He's got a village harem, and the harem is actually progressing, instead of fighting for attention |

@gasbandit While I admit to never having read Wheel of Time, I do know that the world is better thought-out than this one. And I’m sure the characters are written better than INN. |

@Xyzzy Imagine an entire series of fantasy novels like that, where minute details were poured over for pages in describing food, clothing, and other trivia instead of advancing plot or describing action... ... and then realize that's basically Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. |
