@Psychronia I see. The problem is you don't understand what the medieval/middle earth bandits (deserted soldiers) actually are. (Please take a little of your time to read GATE: Thus the JSDF fought here to see) They rob any merchant carriage they see on the way. They rape any women to satisfy their needs. After gang-bang them until their mind is broken, the bandits will sell them as slaves (illegal though) (If you say it's another series and unrelated to this series then please take a little of your time to read the earlier chapters about the war. What did the empire troops do before they desert? Kill innocent villagers and feed them to monsters. It's just recently so the citizen of the kingdom don't forget it that easily. Everyone in the carriage remembers it well) Basically: The farmer wants to protect his wife and daughter from being captured and sold by the bandits so he says "he will fight" The old man sees that and says things like "kids should be with their family instead of being captured and sold, even he is a bad person in the past, but at the end of his life he wants to help someone for once) The merchant doesn't get any profit but he says "I will fight as well because he can't stand seeing women get captured and sold" TL;DR That selfish man isn't stupid to say out loud "Hey, just hand all the luggage and women to the bandits to save us, men's skin" He omits the "women" part, which everyone in that carriage understands it without saying. After this, everyone looks at him like trash. PS: I didn't make anything up. Last edited 5 mo ago by Loli_Omamoritai. |

@Loli_Omamoritai ??? The hell is your problem? When was rape or enslavement brought up here? All I've said was that life is more valuable than material goods, and so as long as the bandits aren't taking anything irreplaceable, it's better to just cooperate to minimize loss of life. A wife and daughter would count as both life and irreplaceable. If robbers hold a gun up at gunpoint, if you fight back, you're not defending people, you're just defending their stuff. In fact, all you'd be doing in that case is putting your own life and those of the people around you at risk, so unless you know what you're doing (or are an overpowered loli), that makes you stupid at best. Robbery and banditry isn't done for the sake of killing people, it's done to steal wealth. In this case, if the bandits are conscripted farmers or Empire officials, who just want to not starve or get executed, then it's all the more likely they'll leave people alone as long as they get the goods, because killing and raping people is a good way to get armed forces on your ass. Not wanting trouble is the rational decision for both sides here-though since it's a Funa work, I guess it's a crapshoot on whether or not these bandits will be written like actual people. |

@yelisei @Psychronia Yes, because you are the same kind of man as that man so you don't think he is selfish at all. Maybe you don't know even "normal men" in the Earth may be normally cowards but they are willing to die to protect people they hold dear / their wife / their daughter. Unlike you, willing to let the bandits capture other people's wife and daughter to rape, sell as sex slaves, etc. to save your own skin and think it's not selfish at all. Don't worry, you are not really bad or anything. It's understandable. Most of people are like that. It's just something people called "selfish who values your life the most" PS: If the robbers really come to rob a bank with guns in hand. I won't play the hero, resist to protect unknown people. But at least I know I'm selfish. Well, I might volunteer to become the hostage instead of a random loli. I might cry or wet myself when the robbers point the gun at me but I think I will to do it. How is surrendering peacefully the selfish option? Unless they really can't afford to lose what they have, giving up their goods is a perfectly reasonable decision. Not everyone can be an isekai protagonist. |

Am I the only one who thought she might hire/settle the bandits herself? |

@yelisei Just your valuables? PFFT Those guys also want the female passengers, to rape & sell. Which was fact that did not phase Jork the Jerk one bit. In addition to which, he goes on to slander the kingdom's savior & newest member of nobility, Mitsuha. |

If the bandits are Empire soldiers who fled, she will probably just have to show her face for them to flee. |

[first panel, page nine] isn't it "The next three days, the Prime Minister gave me a special training...." ? Edit: my mistake; that was a royal scholar, not the PM. |
