@daishishi you are banished from this kingdom, tadano is psy2.0 therefore if he considers himself average he is. What it means is he has no distinguishable traits at a first glance, beyond insane body language reading, but besides that he isn't as handsome strong or smart as some others, therefore average.
You can also argue that he pet the first cat and treated it well, and didn't want to go petting all the cats, and why am I arguing at 3 am on a two month old chapter about huffing paint thinner and cat fur

I think the deal is he looks average at first glance but once people get to know him they realize he's anything but, which is most likely the author's intention.

I don't buy it the whole: "Tadano is completely average", because of 4 points.
1. He choose to be normal. How absolutely incredible one must be to excel exactly in the average of everything.
2. He actually can do almost everything, on an average manner (by his choice).
3. He can read minds, and communicate with those who are undecipherable. Which is out of the average.
4. As the cat in this chapter, everybody who pays attention to him see a glimpse of something more, more than average. Even the readers perceive this underline thing on the MC.

Truly cat huffing is one of the most unsung virtues of cat ownership.

I admit, at first I thought "Chocolate Mama" was some wierd name for Manbagi.
