My point basically was that manga aphrodisiacs are a kind of wish fulfilment magical plot devices. Frankly, in manga they are generally used in a totally immoral manner and in a similar way date rape drugs are used in real life. What makes it even more disturbing is that due to their depicted manner of action, they are used to give an illusion of consent in most manga they show up in.

Hypnotism/hypnotism gadgets are used as basically the same thing in a different form and suffer from much the same issues. And again the depiction of hypnotism is totally divorced to how it functions in real life.

Aphrodisiacs are real. They're either anti-depressants or stimulants that increase libido and sex drive, though they can vary from person to person in their affects. They're not how they're depicted in fiction, though, and it's more akin to rising certain things and lowering others. It's not going to suddenly make you fall into a nymphomaniac stupor or increase your esctacy/confidence outside of placebo.

Typically certain foods are considered in this category. (Cabbages, Oysters (high in zinc and so sperm development), Chocolate (high in PEA), etc.) They only would increase certain sense and elements of sex drive but not the sex itself. Aphrodisiac drugs are also real, such as ones that increase Oxycontin or Viagra are common examples.

The way they are used in fiction is fundamentally different to how they are in real life, so don't expect "Love Potion Number 9" shenanigans coming about.

Heck, I'd be bothered if they made them more realistic since it makes it more likely that people think they are an actual thing rather than a fantasy prop.

I have to say I was worried when the aphrodisiac came out since there were several scenarios coming from that I would definitely have been uncomfortable with but none of those happened.
